Hi everyone welcome back to clumsy cakes my name’ Aimee So today we’re going to start a new series on my channel where i’m going to make some homemade candy bars. And we’re going to start with my favorite, the Twix bar.
If you’ve never seen the twix bar before they are a shortbread cookie with some caramel on top and coated with chocolate. let’s see if i can get a good pull I couldn’t a good pull because these ones were in the fridge.
So we’re going to start with our caramel layer. i have some chewy caramel candies here. What i’m gonna do is i’m gonna unwrap all of these and arrange them in a square the best i can and then we’re going to pop these into the microwave for about five seconds to get them a little bit more pliable, and then we’re going to stick another piece of parchment paper on top and then roll it out into one square slab.
i brought donuts to share with you. You did. yeah. And that’s gonna go into the fridge to chill until we need it. So i have one stick of unsalted butter here, and i’m gonna add one third of a cup of granulated sugar and mix that around for about two minutes until light and fluffy.
Add in one egg. Now you’re going to sift in your dry ingredients. Once the dough becomes too difficult to mix in the bowl, you’re going to turn it out onto a cutting board and then once you can form a dough ball, you’re going to form a rectangle and then you’re going to cover this and leave it in the fridge for one hour to chill.
once the dough has properly chilled and it’s firm, you’re going to stick another piece of parchment paper on top and you’re going to roll this out to about 1/4 of an inch thickness. using a butter knife or a bench scraper, you’re going to cut these into one half inch by 3 inch little sticks.
and then you’re going to place them on your baking sheet, and then you’re going to put them into the fridge for about another 20 minutes before you bake them at 325 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
So next i just melted some semi-sweet chocolate in the microwave. until smooth and then i took an offset spatula and i want to coat the bottom of each cookie. in a thin layer of chocolate. Now it’s time to cut our caramel.
I just want to cut this into a half of an inch by two inch you can use the cookies to guide you in cutting. i found it easier to do this because this process is kind of like a jigsaw puzzle. To adhere the caramel to the bars, I spread a small amount of chocolate on top of each one and then i stuck the caramel on top.
Now time for the fun and messy part of covering these bars in a layer of chocolate. So you’re just going to use your spoon to coax the chocolate over the sides of the bar and just take care to make sure that every last bit of the bar is covered in chocolate just leave these on your countertop for about 20 minutes for the chocolate to set.
So i wanted to do a quick side-by-side comparison. My camera actually shut off on me so we’re gonna try this again. Obviously the um homemade version is bigger than the store bought version. I kind of went a little bit overboard but i was actually going off of the bigger version of twix, like the biggest size um that you would get that actually come to side by side.
The store-bought one that i have is the snack size so that’s kind of the reason for the size discrepancy but as you can see looks pretty much the same inside i was a little bit worried that um the caramel that i was using was a little bit lighter than the caramel in the store-bought but it actually is pretty similar so i am going to give it a taste.
I would mainly say that the biggest difference is that there’s milk chocolate chocolate here and semi-sweet chocolate there/ So obviously this one’s going to be a little sweeter but i actually kind of like the dumbed down sweetness so i would say i did pretty well i’m pretty proud of myself.
i’m actually very pleasantly surprised i was really worried about my ability to pull this off, but oh my gosh this is amazing. And i hope you guys do try it for yourself as always i’m gonna leave all of the ingredients down below and also um a link to my blog where all the written instructions will be there if you would like to take a look at that.
And give this video a like if you enjoyed and you learned something and while you’re down there leave me a comment for anything you would like to see next or let me know what candy bar i should try next.
