Howdy folks it is Barry here welcome to MyVirginKitchen and the start of my pulled pork Month. This is the start of 4 videos dedicated to pulled pork in my pulled pork playlist which you can check out right up here for your full pulled pork inspiration.
We are going to start with a classic perfect oven pulled pork, a delicious meal for all of the family that could not be easier to cook at home in the oven all Year round. Here are the ingredients I am using *clicks fingers* so hit pause and write all of the ingredients down.
Youll notice we are using pork shoulder, that actually creates the best pulled pork so get that if you can, its good value for money, the extra fat melts into the fat when cooking making it more succulent & its perfect for slow cooking and achieving lazy.
That is a great way of summarising this recipe, achieving lazy, so easy, good times, what is not to love. Start off by getting your oven nice and hot & lining your roasting tin with foil big enough to cover the pork shoulder later, but tuck it away for now.
Get the should er from the butchers or supermarket, look for ones with a perfect for pulled pork sticker which on the back says how to cook it which is pretty cool you can put it there if interested that is optional.
So get the pork shoulder out of the packaging and remove the string using scissors, I am taking the rind off, there is enough fat in the shoulder anyway but you can leave it on if you wish and unroll the pork that will help it cook faster.
Give it a pat dry with kitchen towel and place into your roasting tin with that tin foil. Meanwhile we will make our rub by mixing together the salt, paprika & sugar on this plate right here, so I just tipped it into a mixing bowl to create our rub.
Massage half of the mixture into the pork making sure to get it all into the nooks and crannies and evenly coated leaving the rest to one side until later, we just did some dry rubbing baby. Place into the oven for 30 minutes uncovered, this is to simply brown our pork shoulder, with colour comes flavour and this is a really important step.
Once happy with the colour, oh my goodness it was looking amazing. Take it out the oven Boston was loving the smell right there and I was too, carefully fold the foil over the joint so it is completely covered, lower the temperature of the oven and let it cook for at least 5 hours to cook until tender.
With the pork shoulder in the oven you can relax and enjoy your Day however you like. For me this is the perfect Sunday recipe, of course you can do it any day of the week. We are definitely achieving lazy right now.
And remember whatever leftovers we have can be used in other recipes Ill be showing you in the next few weeks. To find room for all that pork, I took the kids out for a big walk with the Boston the pug.
Good times. Oh my goodness guys are you ready to see this guys I think you are once ready the shoulder should be a deep brown colour, let the joint rest for half an hour before simply shredding the pork in its cooking juices into lovely chunky pieces using some good old table forks as as claws,it should literally just fall apart, adding the remaining rub mixing and stirring in well ready for serving.
It is looking so good! Do try to get the shoulder joint if you can guys it really makes a difference & in Britain alone we dont consume enough shoulder so it will help our farmers too. We served our pulled pork with some corn on the cob, rustic mashed potato and tomato relish looking so good.
And yes it is fair to say the girls loved it in fact they demolished it just like I did if interested. But let me know down below your favourite way of cooking pulled pork, how you serve yours, keep an eye on the playlist for more ideas with the pulled pork check out lovepork.
