namaskar welcome to nishamadhulika.com today we will make kali masoor dal. let’s see what all ingredients are required for making kali masoor dal. kali masoor – 1 cup (soaked for 8-10 hours) paste- 4 tomatoes,1 green chily and 1 inch ginger paste cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp asafoetida- 1-2 pinch ghee – 1-2 tsp green coriander – 1-2 tbsp turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp coriander powder – 1 tsp garam masala – 1/4 tsp salt – as per taste or 1 tsp firstly we will boil dal.
for this add dal in cooker. add half the amount of salt and turmerice powder and rest in masala. add 2 cups of water or the level shoud be 1/2-.45 inch above dal. close the cooker. turn on the gas. cook dal for 3-4 more minutes when it simmers for once.
now reduce the flame and cook dal on low flame for 4 minutes. after 4 minutes take off the dal from flame. meanwhile prepare tadka for dal. add ghee in preheated pan. you can use oil for making tadka but ghee makes dal more pleasing.
add 1-2 tsp ghee in pan. when ghee gets hot add cumin seeds and asafoetida. after sauteing cumin seeds add turmeric powder,coriander powder,tomato-chilly-ginger paste and red chilly powder. saute masala until oil starts separating.
you can aslo use chopped tomatoes for making dal. you can even use onion. for this saute onions along with turmeric powder and cumin seeds until it gets little brown then add tomatoes and res t of the spices.
we can also make tadka directly with dal in cooker. masala is ready. dal is also ready;now mix it into masala. add salt and water as per your preference. add garam masala,cover and cook for 2 minutes on low flame so that dal absorbs all spices.
dal i s ready;now add green coriander in the dal. turn off the gas. kali masoor dal is ready. this much quantity of dal can be served to 4-5 family members. serve dal with roti,parantha or naan. try making this recipe and share your experiences with us.
